How Often Should You Clean Artificial Turf in Las Vegas?

The answer depends on three factors: whether you have pets, how old your turf is, and what time of year it is. Here is a specific schedule based on each scenario.

No Pets: Twice Per Year

If you do not have pets using your turf, professional cleaning twice per year is sufficient in Las Vegas. Schedule once in spring (April or May) and once in fall (October or November).

Even without pets, Las Vegas dust and windblown debris accumulate in the infill. The spring cleaning removes winter buildup before summer heat bakes it into the infill. The fall cleaning removes summer dust and organic debris before the cooler months.

One to Two Dogs: Quarterly Minimum, Monthly in Summer

Homes with one to two dogs should plan for professional cleaning at least four times per year, once per quarter. During the summer months of May through September, monthly cleaning is recommended.

The quarterly schedule prevents uric acid crystal accumulation from reaching the threshold where persistent odor becomes noticeable. Monthly summer cleaning is recommended because heat accelerates bacterial decomposition and ammonia release to the point where quarterly intervals are not sufficient to prevent odor buildup between visits.

A practical schedule for Las Vegas homes with one to two dogs is monthly cleaning May through August and quarterly cleaning September through April.

Three or More Dogs: Monthly Year-Round

Homes with three or more dogs using the turf daily should plan for monthly professional cleaning year-round. The volume of pet waste entering the infill each day exceeds what quarterly cleaning can manage, even in cooler months.

For properties with very heavy pet use, such as dog trainers with home training areas or foster families with rotating dogs, bi-monthly (every two weeks) cleaning during summer may be necessary. This is uncommon for residential properties but typical for commercial dog facilities.

New Turf: Start at 6 Months

If your turf was recently installed, you typically do not need professional cleaning until the 6-month mark. New infill is clean and properly distributed. Drainage is optimal. There is no accumulated organic matter.

However, do not wait longer than 12 months for your first professional cleaning, especially if you have dogs. The 6-to-12-month window is when most homeowners first notice odor, and addressing it early prevents the compounding effect that makes later cleaning more intensive and more expensive.

Turf Over 3 Years Old: Consider Restoration

Turf that has not been professionally cleaned in three or more years may need a restoration service rather than a standard cleaning. Restoration involves a more intensive enzyme treatment, full infill replacement or top-up, and extended power brooming to address years of compaction.

Restoration costs more than routine cleaning but is significantly less than replacing the turf entirely. A turf installation that cost $10,000 to $15,000 can often be restored for $500 to $1,000, extending its functional life by several more years.
